Classroom Behavior Management

Classroom Behavior Management Plan

In our kindergarten class we will use a management system similar to a stop light, using our Top Apples chart.  At the beginning of every day, each student starts the day off on the green apple on the chart.  When the students follow the classroom rules they remain on the green apple the entire day.

If the student does not follow a rule, they will be given a warning and a reminder to make a better choice next time.  If the student continues to choose not to follow the rule(s), they will be asked to move their name to the yellow apple and they will sit out of 5 minutes of recess or centers.  After the student completes the 5 minutes, I will conference with them about their choices and they can return to the class activity.

If the student continues the inappropriate behavior and chooses to not follow the rule(s) after the free warning, time out and conference then the student must move their name to the red apple.  Once they are on the red apple the student will miss 10 minutes of recess or centers as a consequence for their choices.  After the student completes the 10 minutes, I will conference with them about their choices and they can return to the class activity.  Also a note will go home to the parents to let them know about the behavior choices made during the day.  If the student continues the inappropriate behavior after progressing through the above steps, the student will lose 20 minutes of recess and may go to the Principal’s Office and/or the parents will receive a phone call.

All students that have made inappropriate behavior choices will always have the opportunity to earn their way back up the chart for good behavior choices during the day. I believe that praising students for their good behavior choices at this age is very effective at helping them learn to make good choices in the classroom.
